Dual Layer Coating Technology of Dds-3 and Dds-4 Data Tape Cartridge
The DAT-72 tape like the DDS-3 & DDS-4 also has the technology of “Dual layer coating” and the tape reel magnetic layer is very thin. It is obvious that for the recording of the High density data, the frequency of high range is needed. So, the noise is created in the high frequency. But the noise in the Sony DAT-72 tape is lowered down because the magnetic layer is very thin and fine. The surface of the tape reel of DAT72 is very smooth due to the non-magnetic layer, this smooth tape surface increases the tape’s durability along with the tape stability.
The magnetic layer of the Sony DAT72 tape is considered as the thinnest in all of the other tape formats of Sony DDS DAT tapes. The magnetic layer is very thin due to the Sony’s “coating technology”. The Sony’s DAT-72 tape cartridge has been tested many times under extreme conditions. The results were very satisfying and the error rate was very low which confirms the reliability and stability of the Sony DGDAT72 DAT 72 backup tape cartridge. The cleaning tape DGD15CL of Sony Company lowers down the threat of wear of the tape reel and enhances the performance. This Sony cleaning tape is compatible and gives the best results in with all the Digital Data Storage drives belonging to the previous generations. It is also very efficient in the drives of DAT 72.
The other data tape based on the DDS technology is the Sony DAT-160 backup data tape. This tape version of DDS tape offers native capacity of 80 GB while the compressed capacity is 160 GB. The size of the Sony DAT-72 is also small like the other Sony tape versions of DDS tape cartridges. The “ear recording density” is enhanced in the DAT-160 tape and has the technology of thin coating. Therefore, with the help of these features, the Sony DAT 160 data tape can store large volume of data even tough the size of the tape cartridge is small.
The enterprises are using the Sony DDS DAT technology based products with confidence and are getting their desired results with reduced operational cost. The DDS tape was launched in the year 1990. Starting from the DDS-1 tape cartridge, Sony has extended the DDS format to the 6th generation DAT-160 data tape cartridge. The DAT-160 is compatible and performs efficiently with the previous generations of DDS format. The Sony DAT 160 tape format performs stable operations and gives best results during repeated reading & writing of data. In the “high frequency” band, the level of noise is very low like in the previous generations of DDS tape format.
The tape is designed in such a way that it can support the other generations previous to it like the DAT-72 and DDS-4. The DDS DAT tapes have been tested to check their reliability and performance. The main reason that made the DDS DAT tape format so popular is that they are backward compatible and support the previous generations. This backward compatibility of DDS DAT tape technology saves the additional cost so, the companies all over the world prefer this format of backup tape.
The DDS DAT format offers the backup solutions in the long term and also saves the additional operational cost for upgrading the system to fulfill the future requirements. Research work is being done to enhance and increase the storage capacity of the tapes along with their data transfer speed and efficiency.
The drive of DDS has 2 heads. One of the head is used for “reading” the data while the other head is to “write” the data onto the tape reel of the DDS tape cartridge. The verification is done by the heads of the tape drive.
