Cheap amateur radio transceivers. any ideas?
I am am extra class ham radio operator but am stupid when it comes to the actual electronics. I don't have a radio right now and need some advice. I am constantly broke but REALLY want to get a radio. I would like HF but if VHF/UHF is a cheaper route, i would do those too, as long as i can key up the local repeaters. Basically i am looking for something C H E A P. Like dirt cheap. Does anyone have any product ideas? I don't really care about the bells and whistles for now, just something to get me on the air. I don't know CW but would consider learning if the cheapest route takes me down that path.

I too was very dumb about electronics when I got my extra. Frankly I memorized the questions and answers but I quickly educated myself. Join a local ham radio club or at least attend a meeting. You may find a member there who has a radio lying around they would part with. I highly encourage you to learn CW. CW QRP rigs can be built for little money and wire antennas are just too easy to make vs buying one.
